Sponsored sail for PetSavers

Success for first half of fundraising effort

Veterinary surgeon David Mason has completed part one of his fundraising mission for veterinary charity PetSavers.

Mr Mason and his colleague Duncan Ross from the Shrubbery Veterinary Centre in Northfleet, Kent, have sailed 45 nautical miles around the Isle of Wight.

The challenge, sponsored by At Veterinary Systems, Bayer, Virbac and Zoetis, took nine hours and 17 minutes to complete.

This was the crew's second attempt at the "Round the Island Race", due to poor weather conditions that forced the sailing yacht to turn back after just 10 miles last year.

However, almost perfect sailing conditions led the crew to come in 22nd out of 50 other boats in the same class this time around.

The second half of Mr Mason's mission to raise money and awareness for PetSavers is to complete the 10K London Run alongside his daughter Kelly in July.
