Free legal advice for BVA members
Employer members offered new unlimited service

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has enhanced its employment law and human resources (HR) service for members who are employers, following a successful trial period.

Using the new service, employers can now have their case referred to an expert legal adviser for unlimited employment law advice and HR assistance.

The service begins with call to the BVA's legal advice line, which is available to all members 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Calls will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and will usually follow a staged procedure, such as disciplinary, grievance, capability or redundancy.

The employment law team will then work closely with the member, with unlimited telephone and email support, to ensure accurate documentation and lawful action is taken.

Peter Jones, president of the BVA, said: "Since launching our extended legal services for employee members in 2010 we have been looking at the best ways to provide support for employer members too.

"The new service will help employer members deal with some of the more difficult legal and HR aspects of running a practice and will work alongside existing BVA workplace publications, disciplinary videos and CPD courses."
