Raft race supports dogs
Event to raise money for Dogs for the Disabled

An annual raft race in its 37th year has chosen to support Dogs for the Disabled at this year's event, which is to be held on Sunday, June 23.

The race has been held each year since 1976, missing only one event in 2001 due to the foot-and-mouth epidemic.

Over the years the event has raised £600,000 for various charities, and it is hoped that £18,000 will be raised this year for Dogs for the Disabled, a charity that trains assistance dogs.

Organised by the Wellesbourne and Shakespeare Lions clubs, the race will cover seven miles between Wasperton and Stratford, crossing two weirs along the river Avon.

Actor and vice patron of Dogs for the Disabled, Brian Blessed, will be attending to show his support for this year's teams.
