Veterinary graduate workshop
Event to better prepare students for working life

A workshop has taken place at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies to help prepare graduates for the workplace.

The event was the second of its kind, both held by Bright Leaf Recruitment, a veterinary recruitment agency, to equip students for the world of work.

At the workshop, named Preparing for the Workplace, students were able to benefit from CV writing skills, job hunting tips and advice on interview techniques.

A presentation was also given by Richard Powell of the agency, to provide future graduates with a better understanding of what to expect.

The recruitment agency's director, Julie Powell, said: "We offer assistance wherever we can with new graduates. It is becoming clear though that extra help can be offered before these graduates enter the employee market."

She added that, as well as discussing essential skills, the agency aims to broaden the student's understanding of the current job market. This includes looking at what other skills are needed to stand out.

Jennifer Quinn, who graduates from the university this year, commented: "The presentation was great, [it] covered many areas that I hadn't thought about before and it has given me some good points to consider."

The agency hopes to work with other veterinary organisations in the future.
