Friends for Life campaign launch
Pet obesity tackled throughout month of May

The Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PFMA) will run its Friends for Life campaign during May, in order to help tackle pet obesity.

Throughout the month, owners are being encouraged to contact their veterinary practice or a pet care specialist for health and weight management advice.

The campaign will also involve the PFMA and other leading experts offering tips, answering questions and inviting feedback both on and offline.

Furthermore, special pet weigh-in sessions will begin on the 8th and run every Wednesday throughout May thereafter.

Following the initial launch, the association hopes that Weigh-In Wednesdays will become a regular event to encourage healthy pets throughout the UK.

A second month of Wednesday Weigh-Ins will be held in August, so that pet owners will be reminded to check on their pets' progress over summer.

The association is keen for weigh-ins to become a regular event, with support via social networks and the use of posters.

PFMA is launching the campaign after it discovered almost half of pets seen by UK vets are overweight, and that most pet owners are surprised by this fact.

With an ideal body condition, the PFMA has found that pets are able to live for up to two years longer.
