New Year Honours 2013
Services to animal welfare awarded

Her Majesty The Queen has awarded BEMs, MBEs and OBEs for the New Year Honours 2013.

Among the honours are those recognised for their services to animal welfare and the veterinary industry.

Those honoured include:

Dr Robert Hubrecht, deputy scientific director at the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare, for his services to animal welfare.

Mrs Jean Bradford, founder of the South Devon Seabird Trust, for her services to animal welfare.

Mrs Cecilia Fernie, founder of Greyhound Rescue, Fife, for her services to animal welfare.

Mrs Dorothy Fisher, RSPCA fundraiser, for her services to animal welfare and the community in Cornwall.

Miss Vivienne Heys, departmental superintendent at the Royal Veterinary College, for her services to higher education and animal health.

From the diplomatic service and overseas list:

Captain Martyn Thompson, of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, and Ms Janette Salter, founder of the Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre in Nepal.
