World record price for sheepdog
A talented young border collie breaks records

An 18-month-old sheepdog has been auctioned for the record price of £8,400 at Skipton Auction Mart in North Yorkshire.

The border collie bitch called Midge, was sold for £2,400 more than the previous highest price due to her skill after just three months of training with Shaun Richards.

Mr Richards, from Burnley, said the secret was getting out with the dogs and enjoying the work. He said he is making the most of something he is good at.

The highest bidder, Eddie Thornally, is a farmer from Worlington, Suffolk.

He said: "It's double what I've paid before but she is a little bit special. She's got a lot about her, a lovely temperament.

"She is going to be your best friend - cheap for a best friend really."

The previous world record was held by a 13-month-old bitch, also sold in Skipton, for £6,000 in February 2011.
