Westminster Dog of the Year
MP canine companions compete for title

The Westminster Dog of the Year event will take place at 10:00am on Thursday 25th October at Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster.

The event, jointly organised by the Dogs Trust and Kennel Club (KC), is a unique chance for MPs from all over the UK to have their four-legged friends battle it out for the title.

MPs will be able to show the dogs that have supported them on their political trail, showcase their bond, highlight the companionship that dogs can offer, and promote dog welfare.

This year, a new, competitive "Doggy Dash" is being included within the competition, which reviews the dog's hero deeds, winning personalities and devotion. In addition, MPs are encouraging their constituents to vote online to help their companions to win.

Dogs Trust CEO, Clarissa Baldwin, said: "Dogs are renowned for bringing people together and this competition is no exception. Westminster Dog of the Year is a light-hearted way to encourage discussion on serious dog welfare issues needing urgent attention, as well as demonstrating the importance of dogs in our lives.”

Caroline Kisko, KC Secretary, said: "We are excited to welcome all parliamentarians’ dogs, regardless of their ‘pawlitical’ standing, and we aim to find the dog that is the most worthy of the title – whether they help to blaze the political trail in their owners’ constituencies, or simply offer their MP-masters the odd lick of support.”
