Snake found in cutlery drawer

A woman from Aberdeenshire made a slithery discovery when she went to grab a spoon for her cup of tea and found a snake there to greet her.

The black, red and brown striped serpent is thought to have sought out his hiding place in the cutlery drawer due to the warmth of the kitchen, as snakes require heat to survive.

After the woman notified the police, the Scottish SPCA took the snake, which has been nicknamed Spooner, to Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

Spooner is thought to be an escaped pet from someone living nearby, due to his good condition.

Lynne Craib, animal rescue officer, said: "We've rescued snakes from all sorts of unusual places over the last few months… Snakes are very good escape artists, so there's every chance Spooner has an owner nearby who is missing him."
