Crossbreeds join the pedigree show For the first time ever, Scruffts, the competition for crossbreed dogs, will take place at the Crufts final.
Birmingham NEC will host the two competitions alongside each other in March next year, with Scruffts, run by the Kennel Club (KC), holding its grand final alongside the pedigree grand final for the first time in its 12 year history.
Though they remain two separate competitions, crossbreed dogs take part in the same activities as those at Crufts, including agility and flyball. Scruffts has four categories: Child's Best Friend, Golden Oldie, Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch and Most Handsome Crossbreed Dog. The ultimate winning title is Scruffts Family Crossbreed of the Year.
Scruffts heats have been held throughout the UK during 2012, with winners making it to Discover Dogs, London, to compete in class finals this November - the winners of which will go on to the grand final next year, to compete alongside Crufts finalists.
Caroline Kisko, KC Secretary, said: "We're very much looking forward to seeing the four class winners come to Crufts for the final next year. We have had some fantastic Scruffts champions in the past and I am sure we can expect to see a really special dog take the title once again."
