New online forum is first of its kind

A new online forum has been launched to help share information between those involved with the health and welfare of working equids.

The online forum, called the International Forum for Working Equids (IFWE), is the first of its kind and has been launched together by the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and a number of leading welfare charities.

Deidre Carson, BEVA past president, said: "By sharing ideas, research, news and experience we believe that even more can be done to improve the health and welfare of working equids.

"In every case our primary intention is that IFWE should help to provide the best possible care for the working horses, donkeys and mules that need our support," she added.

The website, which is funded equally by the organisations that launched it, went live last week following an idea initially considered in 2010 at the BEVA's Worldwide Equine Welfare Symposium.
