World's tallest horse enters Guinness World Records
But uncertainty hovers over tallest donkey

It is official: Big Jake, an 11 year old Belgian gelding, is the world's tallest horse, towering over the equine world at an impressive 20 hands 2¾ inches (210.2cm).

A new addition to the Guinness Book of World Records, Big Jake weighs 2600lbs, eats a bale and a half of hay every day and lives in a 20ft x 20ft stable.

His owner, Jerry Gilbert, describes the horse as "kind of big jokester." He said: "Jake's got a great personality, he's really friendly and loves to play around," adding that he is very proud that Jake holds the record.

Jake is also joined in the Record book by Oklahoma Sam, the world's tallest donkey at 15.3 hands. Although, there could be some dispute over this title, as a 16.2hh donkey was recently given a home at a donkey sanctuary in Lincolnshire.
