Horses unharmed after Newmarket yard fire
Horses taken to safety

Racehorses and staff escaped unhurt on Monday, after a fire broke out at Luca Cumani's yard in Newmarket on Monday 3rd September.

Smoke was seen coming from a section of stables at Bedford House yard in Newmarket at around half ten on Monday morning, and the horses were led to safety by the staff.

It required more than 30 firefighters from Suffolk Fire and Rescue to subdue the blaze, and the roof of the stables was destroyed.

More than 100 horses are trained at Cumani's yard, and he tweeted reassurances that there was no serious damage.

The fire is not thought to be suspicious but an investigation is ongoing.

Cumani's assistant, Olly Williams, commented: "Thank goodness we got the horses out in time. If it had happened one hour later, no-one would have been there to get the horses out. Scary."
