A border collie has defied the odds of never walking again It was thought that Maddie, the 10-year old border collie, would never walk again, but now she's competing in agility competitions - and winning!
When Nicky Prescott was told her dog had severe Achilles tendon injuries and was unlikely to ever recover, she was devastated. The injuries also stopped her active dog from competing in high-level agility competitions.
Maddie underwent two ligament-correcting operations following her diagnosis, and had orthopaedic splint boots designed by specialists soon after. Maddie's owner now says she isn't the least bit bothered about having her legs strapped up, and that you wouldn't know she was different from any other dog.
Vets were stunned to witness Maddie's recovery following her surgery, but Maddie has taken it all in her stride. She now continues to compete in agility competitions, and has even won since wearing her splints.
"It was a miracle just to have her walking again, let alone being able to run around competing in agility classes," said Nicky. "We are all astounded at Maddie's recovery - in true Paralympian style, she's back out competing with the best of them."
