QR coded cow teaching teenagers
Lady Shamrock
Dairy industry education moo-ved along by technology

A dairy farmer has painted her Freisan cow 'Lady Shamrock' with a QR code, to encourage teenagers to learn more about the dairy industry.

Jane Barnes, a farmer from Sombey, Leicestershire, is encouraging people to "zap" Lady Shamrock with their smartphones, whereupon they are directed to a blog of the cow's daily routine and the challenges facing dairy farmers.

Since Lady Shamrock's new decoration, visits to her website have rocketed by 150 per cent. The blog details information about the dairy cow's routine, such as her summer grazing habits and her production of up to 40 litres of milk a day at the farm.
