Educational partnership to support veterinary professionals
The initiative will produce evidence-based resources for veterinary professionals.

FECAVA and Royal Canin join forces to produce evidence-based resources.

The Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) and Royal Canin have announced a new educational partnership to support everyday companion animal practice.

The initiative will produce evidence-based resources, including four clinical factsheets and infographics focusing on gastrointestinal disease and neonatology, including nutritional management.

The first factsheet covers Canine Chronic Inflammatory Enteropathy (CIE) and can be downloaded via the FECAVA website and Royal Canin Academy. It will also be distributed at the WSAVA/FECAVA/PSAVA Congress in Warsaw, Poland (13-16 October).

The factsheet states that up to 90 per cent of dogs with CIE are food responsive, with many maintaining long-term clinical remission through dietary management alone. It outlines a step-by-step approach to diagnostic exclusion, diet trial selection, transition, monitoring, owner communication, and specialist referral.

The resource is adapted from the 2026 ACVIM Consensus Statement and the 2026 JSAP Dietary Management Recommendations.

Ann Criel, FECAVA President, said: “Chronic inflammatory enteropathy in dogs is not always easy to diagnose or treat. This evidence-based factsheet will provide valuable support to veterinarians in their everyday practice when managing these complex cases. Royal Canin’s many veterinary nutritionists contributed their expertise to the development of these resources.”

Daphne Meijer-Westgeest, Royal Canin Health Affairs Lead for Europe, added: "At Royal Canin we are committed to helping to advance veterinary knowledge and translating our expertise in dogs' and cats' nutrition into practical, precise and tailored solutions.

“The partnership with FECAVA allows us to support veterinary professionals in their daily work, and help improve the health outcomes for pets - which is our shared objective across the pet ecosystem."
