Nominations open for BVA Awards 2027
The awards will be presented as part of BVA Live on Thursday, 11 March 2027.
The organisation is accepting nominees until 23 November 2026.

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has officially opened nominations for its 2027 BVA Awards.

Its nine awards will accept nominees from vets, vet teams and the general public until 23 November 2026.

The ceremony celebrates ‘outstanding and inspirational’ veterinary professionals. Across its awards, the BVA will recognise those advancing veterinary science, supporting wellbeing, providing leadership and pushing for sustainability.

Among the awards now open for nominations is the BVA Young Vet of the Year.

Now in its ninth year, it celebrates the work of young and early career vets that are making a significant contribution to their workplace or the wider veterinary community. The winner will receive an enhanced prize package including £1,000 prize money, courtesy of Zoetis, and a year of free BVA membership.

Last year’s winner, Dr Anna Hewison, was honoured for her high standard of care, commitment to development and for collaborating with farmers, vet technicians and her colleagues.

The BVA Veterinary Mentor Award is presented to a professional who has ‘gone above and beyond’ to support and guide their veterinary colleagues. Sharon King was awarded the accolade in 2026, in recognition for her compassion and support for those ‘who might have fallen into the cracks along the way’.

The BVA Wellbeing Award will be presented to a workplace which, in accordance with BVA’s Good Veterinary Workplaces Voluntary Code, supports and enhances its team’s wellbeing needs.

The organisation will also present its One Health and Sustainability Award, awarded in memory of past president Dr Simon Doherty. It celebrates initiatives which have driven increased awareness and action on One Health issues.

BVA’s other awards are:

• BVA Veterinary Leader Award
• BVA Outstanding Service Award
• BVA Advancement of Veterinary Science Award (Dalrymple-Champneys Cup and Medal)
• BVA Animal Health and Welfare Overseas Award (J. Trevor Blackburn Award)
• Vet Record Impact Award

BVA president Dr Gwen Rees FRCVS said: “Working in the veterinary profession is incredibly rewarding but it is undoubtedly hard work. The BVA Awards are a wonderful opportunity to shine the spotlight on the vets and vet teams who work with such dedication, whether that’s delivering the best care for animals and their clients, ensuring a positive workplace culture, or pushing the boundaries of veterinary science. If you know an individual or team who deserves recognition, please nominate them for one of our awards.”

The BVA Awards will be presented as part of BVA Live at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Thursday, 11 March 2027.
