A new podcast is set to provide expertise and fresh perspectives on the delivery of contextualised care in veterinary practice.
Launched by RCVS Knowledge, the series promises ‘informed and lively conversations’ on the practical ways that care can be adapted to different animals, owners and contexts.
The charity currently has twelve episodes planned, which will be released throughout the next year. Its schedule includes topics such as communications skills, referral practice and teamwork.
Its first episode, Contextualised care: why now and what next?, is already available on podcast platforms.
It sees a panel of experts, including the charity’s clinical lead Sally Everitt, discuss the need for contextualised care and what is needed for veterinary teams to support it. The panel draws on findings from RCVS Knowledge’s contextualised care research report and roadmap.
Forthcoming episodes will also address how communication skills factor into contextualised care, its implementation in referral practice and consider a team-based approach to the concept.
The podcast series forms part of an initiative to support veterinary teams with implementing the approach into their practice. A research project into the topic found that, while respondents had broad guidance on the matter, they felt more support was needed for veterinary teams.
It also identified veterinary education as a key tool for supporting contextualised care.
The podcast was part-funded by SPVS Educational Trust, which provided a grant that support the production of five episodes of the series.
Katie Mantell, CEO at RCVS Knowledge, hosts the first episode. Ms Mantell said: “In this podcast series we’ll be asking a wide range of people with different roles in the veterinary sector, in the UK and abroad, to share their perspectives and practical insights on how to adapt veterinary care to each animal and its owner.
“We hope that convening and sharing these conversations will help support veterinary teams to embed a contextualised approach to care for all animals, with benefits for client trust, quality of care and team wellbeing.”
