RCVS ends ‘Let’s Talk Adjustments’ campaign
The guides help facilitate discussions between managers and those with disabilities.
The College has produced a library of accessible materials.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has announced plans to close its reasonable adjustments campaign.

Since its launch in February, the ‘Let’s Talk Adjustments’ campaign has produced a library of resources to encourage conversations about reasonable adjustments in the workplace.

It was inspired by the Disability and Chronic Illness in Veterinary Work and Education Survey, led by RCVS with British Veterinary Chronic Illness Support (BVCIS). The findings, published in July 2024, suggested that there was a need to increase awareness about reasonable adjustments.

The RCVS also noted the importance of promoting wider discourse. The campaign aimed to ensure individuals and organisations had the knowledge they need to implement adjustments into a working environment.

Although the campaign has come to a close, the resources produced will remain accessible in RCVS' resource library.

Among the available resources are:

    • Real stories and insights – a selection of stories from veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses who have navigated health challenges while at work
    • Let’s Talk Adjustments webinar – an exploration of the reasonable adjustments that can be made in a veterinary workplace, including campaign themes, insights, implications and good practice
    • Disability inclusion information – an explanation of disability inclusion, exploring its benefits and importance
    • Equality Act guidance – a summary of relevant legislation and the obligations of employers
    • Reasonable adjustments: a legal duty – information on reasonable adjustments, with a comprehensive resource list
    • Understanding occupational therapy in the workplace – occupational therapy guidance for wellbeing, fatigue and occupational balance
    • A guide to discussing reasonable adjustments at work – a short guide considering different adjustments and working arrangements to enable disabled people to work and have fulfilling careers. The guide aims to facilitate effective discussions between line managers and those affected by physical and psychological conditions.

Gurpreet Gill, RCVS leadership and inclusion manager, said: “The aim of our ‘Let’s Talk Adjustments’ campaign was to promote disability inclusion and encourage conversations around reasonable adjustments across all roles, disabilities and health conditions in veterinary workplaces.

“It has been truly amazing to have had so many fantastic individuals come forward and willingly give up their time to support our campaign and we hope that its impact will be far reaching and long-lasting.”
