RCVS seeks vet professionals to join education committees
Applicants have until 30 August to apply for the committee roles.
Examiners are also needed for the Statutory Membership Examination.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is looking for veterinary professionals to help deliver some of its key educational functions.

The college is inviting applications for two positions on the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) Subcommittee, three positions on its new CPD and VetGDP Engagement Group, and is seeking examiners for the Statutory Membership Examination.

For the CertAVP Subcommittee, the RCVS is looking for two Advanced Practitioners working in practice who have completed a designated CertAVP qualification. The committee, chaired by RCVS Council member Abbie Calow, is responsible for the co-ordination and oversight of arrangements for the modular CertAVP.

Applicants have until 30 August to apply by email to certavp@rcvs.org.uk with a summary of their experience and what skills and knowledge they feel they can bring to the committee.

For its newly launched CPD and VetGDP Engagement Group, the college is seeking three members to join: a veterinary surgeon, a veterinary nurse, and a recent veterinary graduate who is either enrolled on the VetGDP or has recently completed it.

Applications for this role also close on 30 August. Applicants are asked to send a concise email to CPD@rcvs.org.uk outlining their experience and how they feel they can contribute to work of the committee.

RCVS Council member Olivia Cook, who will be chairing the group, said: “The Engagement Group has been set up in recognition that, although the majority of the professions are engaged with meeting their CPD requirements and completing the VetGDP, there are still those who feel confused about the requirements or remain uncompliant for other reasons, and we would like very much to help them.

“Therefore, this is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to play an active part in advancing veterinary standards by ensuring that as many members of the professions as possible have the benefits of lifelong learning in their own practice and their ongoing work for animal health and welfare. In doing so they will help grow public confidence in the professions.

“From the VetGDP perspective, we’re particularly keen that there’s a strong peer-to-peer element, so that those who are doing the VetGDP, or have just recently completed it, are using their recent experience and understanding to evolve the policy and drive engagement.”

The RCVS is also looking to recruit examiners for the Statutory Membership Examination from 2025 onwards.

Applicants must have been a member of the RCVS for at least three years and be familiar with the day one competences for new registrants and the standards expected of final year students and new graduates. Those seeking further information are asked to email Jenny Soreskog-Turp, RCVS postgraduate lead, on j.soreskog-turp@rcvs.org.uk
