Dogs home family fun day raises over £5,000
Activities at the fun day included best trick and waggiest tail competitions.
Birmingham Dogs home wants to create more whelping units.

A canine rescue centre in Birmingham has raised more than £5,000 through a Family Fun Day and Dog Show.

Birmingham Dogs Home welcomed hundreds of dogs and their owners to the event on 22 June. Activities included competitions for the best trick and the waggiest tail, raffles, a tombola, and a prize draw.

The money raised will go to the charity’s Little Miracles appeal, which is raising money towards a specialist maternity wing at the Birmingham Dogs Home's rescue centre in Solihull.

The charity wants to provide a safe environment for the increasing number of abandoned pregnant dogs it is seeing through the creation of more whelping units. Last year, 18 dogs gave birth while under the care of Birmingham Dogs Home.

Fi Harrison, head of fundraising and communications at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “We always love welcoming back our rescue dogs and meeting our supporters. We are so grateful to Ancol Pet Products, our headline sponsors, who do so much to support our charity.

“We really need to give the best support we can to new mums vulnerable new pups which are on the increase at our Solihull rescue centre.”
