iCatCare announces theme of International Cat Day campaign
The five-week campaign will provide accessible resources for cat owners to check their cat care.

The 2022 initiative will focus on providing resources.

Cat welfare organisation iCatCare has announced the theme for its social media campaign leading up to International Cat Day – 'Cat Friendly Resources'.

Running for five weeks until International Cat Day (ICD) on 8 August, the campaign will focus on providing resources that support the key needs of cats throughout their lives.

Throughout the campaign, iCatCare will be sharing downloadable content on the topic for cat owners, and for animal welfare professionals to share with owners, in collaboration with acclaimed illustrator Lili Chin. These resources will support cat owners in understanding cats' essential needs, and to check that they are being met.

“We are really excited at iCatCare HQ on this year’s ICD theme of Cat Friendly Resources,” said Dr Sarah Ellis, head of advocacy at iCatCare.

“Resources such as food, water, resting and safe places are important to every cat, whether it is owned or unowned and whether it lives indoors or outdoors.”

Encouraging the public to get involved with the initiative, iCatCare kicked off the campaign with a naming contest for two new ambassador cats created by Lili Chin. These cats will feature in the resources shared throughout the campaign.

The charity will also be running an interactive photo competition to encourage cat owners to take part and share knowledge on cat-friendly care.

Building up to International Cat Day, the campaign will end with ICD celebrations, with live Q&A sessions, updates from the International Society of Feline Medicine (IFSM) conference, and a reading of 'Minding Mittens' by Dr Aisling O'Keeffe, who wrote the book to teach young children how to care for cats.

Dr Ellis continued: “Likewise, every person whether they care for cats professionally, as a volunteer or as an owner should understand how to provide the key resources a cat needs in a cat friendly way. ICD 2022 allows us to learn together, across the globe in an enjoyable and collaborative way!”
