International Pet Photographer of the Year Awards winners revealed

Awards celebrate the artistry and skill of emerging and professional pet photographers.

The winners of the 2021 International Pet Photographer of the Year Awards 2021 have been revealed.

Veronika Šandorová from Slovakia won the overall Pet Photographer of the Year, with her delightful series of border collie images. Among them include a dog gazing at the camera through a snowstorm, and another leaping through a field of pink flowers.

Veronika who ‘lives and breathes’ for dogs said that her passion for photography started with her first dog, Nabu. She said: “I quickly realized that I need lots of dogs around me and also I need to cuddle with every dog I meet.”

She added that her goal is to capture the uniqueness of each dog and “transfer our love for them into photos”.

"Pet photography is coming into its own"

Presented by the Pet Photographer’s Club, The International Pet Photography Awards are an annual celebration of the artistry and skill of professional and emerging pet photographers.

This year’s competition saw more than 2,500 pet portraits submitted by photographers from 52 countries. The awards, which are split into four categories, are judged on two experience levels – professional and emerging.

Volunteer judges include Cat Race of CatsDog Photography, Alice Loder of Alice Loder Photography, Craig Turner-Bullock of Furtography, Caitlin McColl of Ragamuffin Pet Photography and last year’s winner, Sara Glawe of Arts with Heart Photography.

“It has been so wonderful to see the pet photography industry growing and thriving, particularly over the last decade,” the judges said. “We really believe that as an industry and a profession, pet photography is coming into its own.”
