The Ethics Review Panel is advertising for seven positions.
Applications are now open for seven positions on the RCVS Ethics Review Panel (ERP). The Panel provides ethical approval for practice-based research, which supports veterinary professionals who do not have access to university or industry connections, but wish to carry out research.
Featuring members from all disciplines within the veterinary industry, the Panel will be made up of 19 members, once all available positions have been filled. Of the seven available spaces on the Panel, the RVCS is looking particularly for:
- three veterinary surgeons
- two registered veterinary nurses
- two lay people.
Professor David Morton chairs the panel, and has done for the past five years. Commenting on the applications opening, he said: “I’ve been honoured to Chair the Ethics Review Panel for the last five years. Through my role as Chair, I have had the opportunity to work alongside some exceptional veterinary professionals and I encourage anyone with a keen interest in clinical veterinary research to apply for a position on the Panel.”
Established in 2016 when it emerged that an increasing number of research projects were being conducted in private veterinary practices outside of academic institutions, the ERP was formed when it became apparent that there was a necessity for ethical approval of these projects.
The ERP has reviewed prospective and retrospective research projects on cats, dogs, horses, and farm animals, and has also expanded its horizons into reviewing sociological studies involving veterinary staff. The ERP has played an integral role for many researchers, and advocates for high standards of ethics and scientific design throughout veterinary research.
Anyone thinking of applying can download an application from rcvs.org.uk and should submit the completed form with a CV to ethics@rcvs.org.uk
