Olympian Laura Muir to lead virtual run at BSAVA Congress
Participants can post details of their run and pose questions to Ms Muir in the Health and Wellbeing Chatroom at BSAVA Congress.

Delegates encouraged to ‘lace up their trainers’ to help health and wellbeing.

The BSAVA has announced that Olympic athlete Laura Muir will be hosting a virtual run at this year’s BSAVA Virtual Congress 25-27 March 2021, to highlight the physical and mental health benefits of being active.

Laura Muir is a qualified veterinary surgeon and the British record holder for the 1500m. She is aiming to claim her first Olympic medal at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Ms Muir has created three videos showing how she has successfully balanced running with her veterinary studies, encouraging delegates to get active in order to nurture their wellbeing.

In the videos Laura is interviewed by veterinary surgeon Brian Faulkner, who also ran 31 marathons in 31 days. Mr Faulkner will be sharing his own experiences in the ‘Lessons from Lockdown’ session on the Saturday.

Participants are encouraged to take part at a pace, time and location that suits them. They can post details of their run or walk and pose questions for Ms Muir and other runners on the Congress platform in the Health and Wellbeing chat room.

BSAVA will be awarding prizes for the best selfie posted on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #BSAVAVirtualRun .

BSAVA president Professor Ian Ramsey said: “Whether you are a seasoned runner or have never broken out of a walk we are encouraging everyone to participate.

“Becoming more active is beneficial to health and wellbeing in so many ways and we are hoping to inspire delegates to lace up their trainers, clock up some miles and feel the difference.”
