Flea treatment recalled over labelling error

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has issued a product defect recall alert for Johnson’s 4Fleas 80mg Spot-on Solution for Cats, manufactured by Johnson’s Veterinary Products Ltd.

In a press release, the VMD reports that the treatment was being recalled owing to a labelling error.

On the leaflet provided in the box, it states: 'For the prevention and treatment and prevention of flea (Ctenocephalides felis) infestations on cats of less than 4 kg bodyweight.'

However, the leaflet should state: 'For the prevention and treatment and prevention of flea (Ctenocephalides felis) infestations on cats greater or equal to 4 kg bodyweight.'

The recall affects only a single batch – DO41 Johnson's 4Fleas Large Cat 6X2X0.8ml – KP0F3U7

The VMD writes: 'Johnson’s Veterinary Products Ltd is contacting wholesale dealers to examine inventory immediately and quarantine products subject to this recall. This issue only applies to the batch listed above. Any other batches of Johnson’s 4Fleas 80mg Spot-on Solution for Cats are not impacted and may continue to be distributed.'
