BSAVA Congress 2018 gets underway
BSAVA Congress is taking place at the International Convention Centre and Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham.
RCVS launches new vet leadership course

BSAVA Congress 2018 got underway this morning (5 April) with the launch of a new course to help vets improve their leadership skills.

Spearheaded by the RCVS, the Edward Jenner Veterinary Leadership Programme was developed in partnership with the NHS Leadership Academy.

The programme will explain the importance of leadership both for the wellbeing of vets and clinically. It will also help vets become more confident, effective leaders, develop an inclusive leadership culture and apply leadership skills in practice.

Also announced today was a project to help vets benefit from the opportunities of new technology. Introduced by RCVS leaders, ViVet aims to help the veterinary profession engage with the challenges and opportunities that come with artificial intelligence.

Alison Lambert from OnSwitch delivered a thought-provoking lecture on why EMS students matter and how word-of-mouth and key opinion leaders are very important.

"EMS students are practice ambassadors," she said. They are a ready supply of walking adverts and have, on average, a minimum of 200 social media 'friends'. They have a network of other student vets who will be looking for a job within the next few years.

BSAVA Congress (5-8 April 2018) will see four packed days of quality CPD from international experts, a thriving exhibition and a series of exciting social events. The event is taking place at the International Convention Centre and Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham.

This year, the Congress programme has been expanded to include over 450 lectures from world-renowned speakers, a new ‘Beyond the clinics’ personal development stream and a number of more practical sessions.
