John Davies seeks mandate to address root causes

A vet standing in the 2017 RCVS Council election says that he is ‘gravely concerned’ about the governance of the veterinary profession.

In his manifesto, small animal practitioner John Davies writes that he seeks a mandate to ‘illuminate and address the root causes insofar as the issues are relevant to the wider profession’.

‘The concerns I allude to are best illustrated by my own story,’ he notes.

Before John became a vet he studied chemistry and, to save up for his degree, had fun working in the research and development of mining and explosives. Graduating from Liverpool in 1992, John went on to work in small animal, equine and mixed practices, mainly in the UK but also Melbourne and Sydney and Cape Town.

Outside of veterinary practice, John is studying for an MA in Christian Apologetics and enjoys cycling mountaineering and kayaking. In 2004, he completed a degree at the London School of Theology and in 2010 he opened a Joint Venture Practice in Oxford.

Ballot papers and candidates’ details will be posted to all veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses eligible to vote during the week commencing 13 March. All votes must be cast, either online or by post, by 5 pm on Friday, 28 April 2017.
