"Regional representatives play a crucial role in feeding in the views and ideas of members into the BVA Council."

BVA seeks regional representatives in five of the 12 regions

Nominations are now open for the BVA Council Elections.

The BVA is seeking regional representatives in five of the 12 regions, who are willing to gather and represent the views of their fellow members as part of the BVA's policy-making process.

Nominations are open for candidates in Scotland, and the South-East, South-West, North-West and East of England. Candidates will be elected by the membership in their region and nominations will close at 4pm on December 12, 2014.

John Blackwell, BVA president, said: "Regional representatives play a crucial role in feeding in the views and ideas of members into the BVA Council, the overarching policy-making body at BVA. Our regional representatives are central to its success.

"Their ability to engage with current issues, represent the views of colleagues and share information to the wider membership will be a key requirement for the role.”

The BVA Council's primary role is to represent members' views on matters of veterinary policy, advise the board members on matters of veterinary policy, and to appoint four members as directors of the board. The council is also in charge of approving new members of the association and to recommend for election the council's preferred candidates for president and president elect.

Candidates will be announced shortly after the closing date. The election process will be run by the Electoral Reform Services on behalf of BVA and all members within a region will be eligible to vote.
