Another busy day at the BVNA Congress
The second day of the 40th annual BVNA congress 2013 is now drawing to a close

The day kicked off to an early start, with exhibitors opening their stands at 8.30am and lectures and workshops starting at 8.45am.

Hundreds of veterinary nurses and veterinary nurse students have been roaming the exhibits, entering competitions and picking up free samples of products. Workshops and lectures have also been well attended throughout the day.

Today's lecture topics have covered a wide range of themes. A lecture by Sue Badger MEd CertEd VN MBVNA entitled 'How to conduct the perfect tutorial, maximising time with students', focused on education, and discussed the relationship between the student and the mentor. She also provided tips and advice to mentors on how to hold an effective tutorial, taking into account the environment and the students learning styles and personality.

On the theme of charitable veterinary care, a lecture by the Cats Protection behaviour manager, Nicky Trevorrow discussed 'Environmental enrichment in the rescue setting'. The lecture was attended by both veterinary nurses and students, and provided tips for how to ensure mental and physical enrichment for rescue cats in shelters or veterinary practices.

Rory O'Connor, the National Coordinator of the Veterinary Health Support Programme, also attended the Congress to give an inspiring lecture on 'Mental health and addiction in the veterinary workplace'.  He explored the nature of mental health problems, and the reasons that they appear more frequently in the veterinary profession than in the public.

So far, the Congress has been a exciting and informative weekend. The exhibits and lectures are now drawing to a close, and preparing for the final day of the BVNA Congress 2013.
