New BEVA president appointed

Presidential handover takes place at congress

Paul Jepson will be taking over presidency of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) at the close of its annual congress.

Taking place in Manchester from September 11 to 14, the BEVA congress will end with the presidential handover, during which current president Keith Chandler will step down.

Jepson, who will take the reins for the 2013/2014 year, graduated from Liverpool University and worked in mixed practice for five years, before moving his way up the ranks to brigadier for the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.

From 1997 to 2010, Jepson was chief executive of what is now the Horse Trust, where he worked as a equine vet, as well as guarding the trust's funding of scientific research and clinical scholarships.

Now he works as a veterinary advisor from his home, as well as being chairman of the committee responsible for delivery of the GB Equine Health and Welfare Strategy, a member of the National Equine Forum Committee and a member of a government and equine industry group on exotic diseases.

He said: "BEVA is a recognised world leader in promoting the highest standards of equine health and welfare, scientific excellence and education. BEVA really makes a difference and it is an honour to be president."
