Full-time Veterinary Surgeon — West Berkshire

Valley Veterinary Group, a well-established, proudly independent practice in West Berkshire, is seeking an experienced or a new-graduate small animal veterinary surgeon to join its friendly team. The group has three sites, including its main branch at Tutts Clump and branch surgeries in Pangbourne and Spencers Wood.

This role consists of both consulting and operating, with a mix of surgical and medical caseload. The practice has all the usual diagnostic equipment that you would expect, including digital X-ray, a new ultrasound machine and endoscopy. There is an equally shared Saturday morning rota, with Vets Now covering overnight and the remaining weekend out-of-hours service.

Some sole charge will be required within this position, although help is always available if needed. The group is happy to facilitate the development of interests and provide support in completing a certificate if desired. There is also potential to take charge of and develop one of the branch surgeries, as well as a generous CPD allowance.

Either a 4.5 or 4-day working week is available — the rota is flexible and can be discussed to meet your requirements. Usual benefits apply, including paid RCVS and BSAVA memberships and private health insurance. Salary is c35-65k but the practice is always open to discussion. A driving licence and own vehicle are essential due to the rural location.

  • Defra shares new Sanitary and Phytosanitary guidance
Blog SpotDefra has published guidance for the vet sector ahead of a proposed UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement.

The agreement, which will change the movement and trade of animals and related products, could see reductions in checks, paperwork and certification. As well as describing regulatory developments, the advice highlights the importance of animal ID, registration and traceability in disease control and other compliance arrangements.

The guidance can be found here. More detail is expected as negotiations progress.
