Veterinary Surgeon – Full-time Blackmore, Essex

House and Jackson Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join its small animal practice in Blackmore, Essex.

This role would be ideal for a vet with 3-5 years experience, that has confidence in all routine surgery, medical work ups and diagnostics. You will be able to independently deal with emergencies on OOHs weekends, including RTA, GDV and acute medical crises. The practice is willing to support further study.

Daily duties will be a mix of first opinion consults and procedures at the hospital and its main branch. The work schedule will be 3-4 days per week, with one week night duty per fortnight. You will also work 1 in 8 weekends and 1 in 8 Saturday mornings.

The practice sees a varied case load, and provides video endoscopy, laparoscopy, orthopaedic surgery, dental X-ray, on-site lab work, hydrotherapy and laser therapy. In-patients are hospitalised on-site.

You will be part of a team of experienced vets, with certificate holders in surgery, cardiology and ECC. There is also a strong nursing team of RVNs, SVNs and NAs. Overnight patient care is provided by resident interns, with a duty vet and vet nurse on call if needed, while overnight emergencies are handled externally.

Could you join House and Jackson’s talented team? Submit your application to laura.laura.purser@houseandjackson.co.uk

  • Defra shares new Sanitary and Phytosanitary guidance
Blog SpotDefra has published guidance for the vet sector ahead of a proposed UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement.

The agreement, which will change the movement and trade of animals and related products, could see reductions in checks, paperwork and certification. As well as describing regulatory developments, the advice highlights the importance of animal ID, registration and traceability in disease control and other compliance arrangements.

The guidance can be found here. More detail is expected as negotiations progress.
