Ambulatory Equine Veterinary Surgeon — Newbury, West Berkshire


Espinar Equine is looking for an equine veterinary surgeon to join its ambulatory practice. The practice treats performance and leisure horses within a 45-minute drive of its Newbury base.

The practice’s goal is to improve human-horse harmony by focusing on equine lameness, performance issues, and musculoskeletal conditions. It offers a range of services, including lameness workups, gait analysis, regenerative medicine, shockwave therapy, and diagnostic imaging. It also performs pre-purchase consultations, second opinions, and export health certification.

In this role you will provide a first-opinion general practice service to clients’ horses, with the opportunity to see more specialised cases as your experience develops. You should be confident in a range of procedures as well as more routine visits. You will also need to perform or assist in surgical procedures.

Your responsibilities will often see you working independently, as well as handling emergencies and performing vettings. You will collaborate with the office team to manage your resources and complete admin tasks promptly.

The practices take pride in building strong, friendly relationships with its clients. As a member of the team, you will be expected to maintain this by offering them practical advice and keeping their horses happy.

Applicants must have at least two years’ experience. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, high integrity and some experience with diagnostic imaging. Candidates should also be able to use AI and be willing to embrace new technologies for reporting and diagnostics.

    Blog SpotA set of international guidelines for disease surveillance in wildlife has been updated for the first time since 2015.

    Released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Organisation for Animal Health, General Guidelines for Surveillance of Diseases, Pathogens and Toxic Agents in Free-ranging Wildlife is designed to help wildlife authorities and others working with wildlife carry out effective surveillance programmes.
