Referral Veterinary Nurses – Ophthalmology (full-time) – South Tyneside


Bridge Referrals, an independent small animal veterinary referral hospital in the North East, is currently seeking full-time registered veterinary nurses to join their friendly team.

You should be able to work well under pressure, collaborate effectively, and prioritise patient care. While experience within an ophthalmology department is not essential, full training will be provided.

The role entails a commitment to a rota of 40 hours per week (38 hours, half hour paid lunch per 10 hour shift) which may include participation in a quiet weekend and bank holiday on-call rota. Out of hours is referral only and screened by the on-call vet.

Skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Proactive attitude and ability to work autonomously
  • Capacity to adapt, keenness for learning, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High motivation to deliver outstanding service and ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Competent IT skills
  • The ideal candidate would have experience of referral nursing, but this is not essential

    Blog SpotA set of international guidelines for disease surveillance in wildlife has been updated for the first time since 2015.

    Released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the World Organisation for Animal Health, General Guidelines for Surveillance of Diseases, Pathogens and Toxic Agents in Free-ranging Wildlife is designed to help wildlife authorities and others working with wildlife carry out effective surveillance programmes.

    The document, which cover areas including choosing appropriate strategies, safety and biosafety protocols, and ethical and legal considerations, can be read here.
