BVNA Award Ceremony and Presidential Handover
Louisa Baker takes over as President
The BVNA Awards ceremony and presidential handover has taken place during the 39th annual Congress of the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA).

Beginning the ceremony on a poignant note with a minute of silence in remembrance of Tracy Mayne, Claire Fraser, outgoing President of BVNA, passed over to Louisa Baker to introduce and announce the awards.

Congratulations go to all the winners:
  • College of Animal Welfare Award for Veterinary Care Assistants - Helen King
  • Petplan Insurance Advisor of the Year - Jade Rolls
  • Blue Cross Veterinary Nurse of the Year - Samantha Shand
  • Merial Literary Award - Anya Owen
  • College of Animal Welfare Professional Development Award - Nicola Ackerman
  • Bayer Award for BVNA Regional Co-ordinator of the Year - Sarah Wyatt (with Pippa Sterns as runner up)
  • BVNA Special Recognition Award - Edinbrugh's Telford College
  • BVNA Honorary Membership Awards - Bonny Millar and Nicola Ackerman

The BVNA awards ceremony preceded the presidential handover, which saw Claire Fraser hand over the reins of presidency to Louisa Baker.

In her first speech as BVNA President, Louisa described it as a "surreal experience" to be taking on the role, after joining BVNA council in 2008 with the "sole aim to support the association in any way I could."

She said she is both humble and proud to stand where she is today, and promised to continue the good work of all the previous presidents who have collectively made the BVNA what it is today. Best wishes go to Louisa.

BVNA Congress draws to a close today (Sunday 7th October 2012) after three action-packed days of CPD, a commercial exhibition and social events, taking place at the International Centre, Telford.
