Tributes paid to Pip Boydell
In addition to his success in the veterinary world, Pip was a world champion kickboxer.
Profession mourns respected neuro-ophthalmologist

Pioneering vet Pip Boydell has passed away, it has been announced.

Respected neuro-ophthalmologist Pip qualified in 1984 and completed a general surgical internship and ophthalmic residency.

He had been treating referred ophthalmic and neurologic patients for more than 25 years and, together with his partner Rachel Pike, ran the Animal Medical Centre Referral Services in Manchester.

As well as developing new techniques and treatments in his areas of expertise, he published more than 200 papers and abstracts in both veterinary and medical journals and spoke at numerous conferences and meetings.

In addition to his success in the veterinary world, Pip was a world champion kickboxer and set up his own kickboxing club in south Manchester.

Among tributes posted online, one of Pip’s clients thanked him for his work and dedication on Instagram, adding: “A multi talented man known world wide for his veterinary skills and knowledge and being a kick boxing champion & more locally for being lead singer in a band and running a farm.”

Veterinary nurse Rachel Bean said on Twitter: “So sad to hear Pip Boydell has passed away. One of the Veterinary worlds characters and educators, he will be sorely missed.”
