ECC Skills for Nurses
Course Outline:
This practical focused day will look at various aspects of emergency and critical care and the types of devices that you’re likely to use in critically ill patients, including placement and maintenance of central venous catheters, chest drains, tracheostomy tubes and feeding tubes. You’ll also learn how to perform effective CPR. Although veterinary nurses may not be allowed to place some of these devices it is essential you understand how they are placed and also how to maintain them. This course will help you to develop your knowledge, confidence and skills in this area.
What you’ll learn:
- How to place and maintain central venous catheters
- How tracheostomy tubes are placed and recommendations on maintaining them
- How to perform effective CPR
- Placement of feeding tubes (nasogastric and oesophagostomy) and how nutrition should be administered to critical patients
